You can collect hair from any part of your pet’s body. Simply brush, cut, or gently pull fur to gather the required sample.

If your pet’s fur is longer than 1 inch, collect 10–15 strands. If their fur is shorter than 1 inch, gather 20–25 strands. Does your pet need to be bathed beforehand?

No, a bath isn’t required before testing. However, make sure the hair sample is free of visible dirt, debris, or other foreign materials to avoid interference with the testing process.

Place the collected hair in the provided anti-static bag included in your 5Strands kit. This helps protect the sample during transit. Be sure to securely seal the bag before placing it in the return envelope.

Before mailing the sample, ensure that your kit is registered. Use the unique ID code found inside your kit to link the sample to your account via the 5Strands portal or mobile app. Successful registration ensures accurate processing and results delivery.

Your kit includes a prepaid return label to simplify the shipping process. Save Your Tracking Number: This allows you to monitor your sample’s progress and ensures peace of mind in case of postal delays. Average Transit Time: Samples typically arrive at our processing center within 3–10 business days for customers in the United States. International transit may take longer.

Once the sample arrives, you’ll receive a confirmation email notifying you that it has been received and logged into our system. You can also check your order status in the customer portal or mobile app—it will update from "Awaiting Sample" to "Sample Received."

Your pet’s food intolerance results provide a tailored plan to address dietary sensitivities. For Level 3 items, which indicate high intolerance, we recommend removing these foods from your pet’s diet for 6–8 weeks. Gradually reintroduce them one at a time in rotation and moderation to determine safe levels of consumption. This method helps rebalance your pet’s system and reduces discomfort caused by food-related triggers.

A Note on Environmental Factors: While this test focuses solely on food intolerances, it’s important to recognize that environmental factors—such as dust mites, pollen, or cleaning agents—could also contribute to your pet’s symptoms. If you’ve adjusted their diet according to the results and still notice persistent issues, it may be worth exploring additional testing for environmental triggers to gain a more comprehensive view of their sensitivities.

Finding a Commercial Pet Food: If your pet’s results highlight multiple food triggers, finding a commercial pet food may require extra diligence. Compare the test results to ingredient lists on pet food packaging, ensuring all Level 3 items are avoided. This step is essential for creating a diet that aligns with your pet’s unique needs and helps minimize symptoms.

Considering a Home-Cooked Diet: For pets with extensive food triggers, a home-cooked, limited-ingredient diet may be the most effective solution. This approach gives you complete control over their food, ensuring no triggering ingredients are included. Home-cooked meals also avoid the additives and preservatives often found in commercial pet foods. To maintain nutritional balance, consult a pet nutritionist for guidance on essential nutrients.

Your pet’s results reflect their current state of food sensitivities, which can evolve over time. Retesting every 6–12 months ensures their health plan remains effective and aligned with their needs. Confirm improvements from the elimination plan and monitor changes in sensitivities. Identify New Triggers: Detect sensitivities that may develop from overexposure or dietary changes. Refine the Plan: Adjust your pet’s diet to maintain long-term health and well-being.

Your pet’s results are categorized for clarity:

Level 3: High - likely noticeable symptoms.
Level 2: Moderate - may cause symptoms.
Level 1: Low - minimal or no symptoms.

By focusing on your pet’s food sensitivities while remaining mindful of potential environmental triggers, you can take a comprehensive approach to improving their health. Whether you’re choosing commercial pet food or crafting a home-cooked diet, 5Strands empowers you with the tools to address their unique needs. Stay proactive, retest as needed, and help your pet thrive!

Frequently Asked Questions

Yes, your pet can still eat kibble, but you’ll need to choose a brand and formula carefully to ensure it aligns with their intolerance test results. When selecting kibble:

Check the Ingredient List: Even if a triggering item is listed toward the end of the ingredients, it can still cause a reaction. Food intolerances are not dependent on quantity but on the body’s reaction to the specific item. Avoid All Level 3 Items: During the elimination phase (6–8 weeks), completely avoid kibble that includes any flagged Level 3 ingredients.

How Do I Shop for Commercial Pet Food? Match Your Results: Use your pet’s test results as a guide. Focus on finding kibble or commercial food that does not include any flagged ingredients, especially Level 3 items. Read Labels Thoroughly: Look for hidden triggers like by-products, meals, or additives. For example, "chicken meal" could contain parts of the chicken flagged in your pet’s results. Consider Limited Ingredient Diets (LID): These diets have fewer ingredients, making it easier to avoid triggers while maintaining balanced nutrition.

If you’re unable to find kibble that excludes all flagged items, consider:

Homemade Diets: Preparing your pet’s meals at home gives you complete control over ingredients. Fresh or Freeze-Dried Options: Many brands now offer fresh or minimally processed foods with transparent ingredient lists. Consulting a Nutritionist: Partner with a certified pet nutritionist to create a safe and balanced plan tailored to your pet’s needs. Ours is Tazz Latifi!

Yes, your pet’s results from the 5Strands test will differ from traditional blood testing. Unlike blood tests, which measure immune responses to allergens like IgE or IgG, 5Strands uses bioresonance technology to analyze your pet’s energetic response to food and environmental items. This non-invasive method requires only a simple hair sample, eliminating the need for a vet visit, needles, or physical exposure to allergens. While blood tests can diagnose allergies, 5Strands focuses on identifying intolerances and imbalances that may cause long-term discomfort or sensitivities. Both methods provide unique insights into your pet’s health, but our testing offers a painless, at-home alternative to gain valuable information about your pet's wellness.

No, the results from the 5Strands test do not dictate a forever diet for your pet. Instead, they provide a roadmap for temporarily eliminating foods causing imbalances, allowing your pet’s system to reset and heal. When harmful intolerance exposures are reduced or removed, the gut microbiome—an essential network of microorganisms responsible for digestion, nutrient absorption, and immune health—has the opportunity to rebalance.

Overexposure to intolerant foods disrupts this delicate ecosystem, leading to inflammation, poor nutrient absorption, and discomfort. By giving your pet’s gut time to recover, you allow beneficial bacteria to thrive, reducing inflammation and restoring proper digestive function. After following an elimination plan for 6–8 weeks, foods can be reintroduced gradually in rotation and moderation to determine safe levels of consumption. This dynamic approach supports long-term health by helping the microbiome adapt and become more resilient, which is crucial for maintaining overall vitality. Since intolerances can shift over time, periodic retesting ensures your pet’s diet continues to support their optimal health.

Yes, 5Strands testing works for all dogs and cats, regardless of breed, size, age, or health condition. This is because our testing uses bioresonance technology to analyze your pet's unique energetic blueprint through a simple hair sample. Unlike traditional methods that may require blood or saliva, our process is non-invasive and painless, making it ideal for pets of all temperaments, including those who may not tolerate vet visits or needles.

Bioresonance testing is universal in its application because it measures how your pet's energetic frequencies interact with various food and environmental items. These frequencies are specific to your pet and provide insights into potential intolerances or imbalances affecting their well-being. By identifying these triggers, the testing allows you to create a customized plan tailored to your pet's individual needs, supporting their overall health and vitality. Whether you have a playful puppy, a senior cat, or a sensitive pet with ongoing issues, 5Strands testing provides valuable insights for every furry family member.

Whether you should get an Environmental Intolerance Test depends on your pet’s symptoms and overall health. If your pet is experiencing ongoing issues such as itching, paw licking, sneezing, hair loss, or irritation that doesn’t improve after adjusting their diet with a Food Intolerance Test, an Environmental Intolerance Test could provide the missing piece of the puzzle.

This test identifies sensitivities to items like grasses, pollen, cleaning products, fabrics, and more—factors that are often overlooked but can play a significant role in your pet’s well-being. It’s particularly helpful if your pet lives in a shared space with other animals or spends time outdoors, as environmental triggers can accumulate and lead to discomfort.

By uncovering these sensitivities, you can make informed adjustments to your pet’s living environment—such as switching cleaning products, adding air purifiers, or choosing different bedding materials. For a more comprehensive understanding of your pet’s health, combining both food and environmental intolerance testing can provide a well-rounded approach to reducing symptoms and improving their overall quality of life.

Benefits of Diet Rotation

Rotating your dog or cat’s diet introduces variety and helps prevent intolerances caused by overexposure to the same ingredients. Pets, like humans, can develop sensitivities when they eat the same food daily, as their digestive systems may struggle to process certain ingredients over time. Diet rotation reduces the risk of intolerances, improves nutritional balance by providing a broader range of vitamins and minerals, and encourages flexibility, making your pet less likely to experience digestive upset if dietary changes are needed. Gradually introducing new proteins, vegetables, or grains ensures a smooth transition. With insights from the Pet Food Intolerance Test, you can identify the foods best for your pet, creating a balanced diet that supports their health and vitality.

    Very detailed

I got a very detailed report which explains why none of the diets I was using before to alleviate allergies in my dog were working. I have had him on the diet of non-reactive foods for a little while. There’s been some improvement in just a short time I’m looking forward to even more improvement as we go along.

    Pet Food Intolerance Test

I’ve got to tell you I used the pet food and environmental test 3 years ago for my Great Pyrenees. We were at our wits end trying to figure out what to feed her and what else she had intolerances to. She had ear infections and itchy skin. I was cooking her food after trying market brands and them making her worse. The Vet said to give her ground turkey- that made it worse. Come to find out the ground beef wasn’t the problem- it was the blueberries! I started researching different companies and almost all of them put blueberries in their food, because it’s so good for dogs. That and pumpkin, which she has a problem with too. So now I decided to do the food intolerance test (3 years later) to see if she had outgrown some of her intolerances. She has. I’ve told so many people about 5Strands and what a blessing it has been to me and my dog.

    LIFE CHANGING!!!

Best money I’ve ever spent. I had a 7 month old German wirehaired pointer and he was itching so bad that his ears had no hair and neither did his tail. The vet couldn’t figure it out so I ordered this test and changed his diet for his food sensitivities. For the environmental sensitivities the vet gives an injection every 6-8 weeks. He is now 1.5 years old and his hair is back and no more itching!!!! I just recently got a German shorthaired pointer and first thing I did was get this test. If you’re debating on doing this test just do it. It’ll save you a lot of money and help your furry friend.
